Students of VGTU Engineering Lyceum together with engineering teachers are implementing the “Erasmus+” KA2 Strategic Partnership project “Think Inside The Box! A methodological STEAM toolkit for schools”.
Students in grades 5-8 and 9-12 participated in hackathons organized by the lyceum teachers. During the Hackathons students had to make a box and install a ball path using creative and technical solutions and the FabLab equipment of the lyceum. Junior students designed the boxes with a focus on their technical solutions, while senior students had to program the mechanism of operation of the box using the Solidworks program and 3D printing.
At the end of each Hackathon there was a team competition. The teams competed on which team’s ball would cross its path the slowest. The students also discussed what was successful and what difficulties they encountered in carrying out the project task. Students shared their insights, experiences, and decisions on how to improve the way boxes work.
The project is implemented by non-formal and general education institutions in Lithuania, Estonia and Romania.
In the videos below you can see the hackathons for grades 5-8 and 9-12.
